Description

In a world where understanding, equality, and historical awareness are more important than ever, AfricAvenir International e.V. stands as a leading non-profit organization dedicated to promoting African perspectives, social justice, and intercultural dialogue.

Based in Berlin, Germany, AfricAvenir International e.V. is an independent, non-partisan, and charitable organization that emerged from the internationally recognized work of the AfricAvenir International Foundation in Douala, Cameroon. Since its establishment in 2000, the organization has been committed to creating spaces where education, culture, history, and critical reflection inspire positive social transformation.

Our mission is to contribute to a world where all people can live together as equals—free from colonial thinking, racism, discrimination, and systems of domination. Through education, cultural exchange, and public dialogue, we seek to strengthen mutual understanding while amplifying African voices in global conversations.

Our Vision

AfricAvenir International believes that sustainable peace and social progress can only be achieved through equality, justice, and respect for cultural diversity.

We envision societies where historical injustices are openly examined, where marginalized perspectives are recognized, and where people from different backgrounds collaborate to build inclusive communities based on dignity, solidarity, and human rights.

Our work is rooted in the conviction that knowledge is a powerful tool for social change.

Promoting African Perspectives

For centuries, African history, cultures, and intellectual contributions have often been overlooked or interpreted through colonial narratives.

AfricAvenir International is dedicated to changing this reality by supporting the production and dissemination of knowledge from African perspectives.

Our educational and cultural initiatives encourage critical reflection on historical and contemporary issues while highlighting the richness, diversity, and creativity of African societies.

By placing African voices at the center of dialogue, we contribute to a more balanced understanding of global history and contemporary international relations.

Political Education for an Inclusive Society

Education is one of the most effective instruments for combating discrimination and promoting democratic values.

AfricAvenir International develops innovative educational programs that encourage participants to critically examine issues such as:

  • Colonial history and its lasting impact
  • Racism and structural discrimination
  • Social justice and human rights
  • Decolonization and historical memory
  • Global inequalities
  • Migration and identity
  • Cultural diversity
  • International cooperation
  • Civic participation
  • Peacebuilding and intercultural dialogue

Our educational approach combines academic research with practical experiences, creating meaningful opportunities for learning, discussion, and collective action.

Bringing Together Diverse Voices

One of the defining strengths of AfricAvenir International is its commitment to bringing together people from different cultural, academic, and professional backgrounds.

We actively involve:

  • African scholars
  • Afro-European researchers
  • Artists and cultural practitioners
  • Community leaders
  • Human rights advocates
  • Activists
  • Students
  • Educators
  • Journalists
  • Members of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPoC) communities

These collaborations foster dynamic exchanges of ideas and promote innovative solutions to global social challenges.

More Than Two Decades of Cultural and Educational Engagement

Since its founding in 2000, AfricAvenir International has developed an impressive range of educational and cultural initiatives that encourage dialogue across communities.

Our activities include:

  • International conferences
  • Educational workshops
  • Professional training programs
  • Public dialogue forums
  • Film screenings featuring African cinema
  • Audience discussions with filmmakers
  • Art exhibitions
  • Theatre performances
  • Lecture performances
  • Academic publications

  • Community engagement projects
  • Public awareness campaigns

Each initiative creates opportunities for participants to engage with important social and historical questions while celebrating the diversity of African cultures.

Culture as a Catalyst for Social Change

Art has the unique ability to challenge perceptions, inspire dialogue, and build connections across cultures.

AfricAvenir International uses artistic expression as a powerful educational tool by promoting African cinema, literature, theatre, music, and visual arts.

Through exhibitions, performances, and cultural events, we create spaces where audiences can discover new perspectives, confront difficult histories, and celebrate the creativity of African artists.

Our cultural programs encourage empathy, curiosity, and meaningful intercultural exchange.

Research, Knowledge, and Public Dialogue

Our work extends beyond cultural programming to include research, documentation, and public knowledge production.

AfricAvenir International collaborates with universities, researchers, educators, and civil society organizations to explore the historical, political, economic, and social dynamics shaping Africa and its global connections.

By making scholarly knowledge accessible to wider audiences, we help bridge the gap between academic research and public understanding.

Our objective is to encourage informed debate and critical thinking that contributes to more equitable societies.

Honoring the Legacy of Prince Kum’a Ndumbe III

AfricAvenir International was founded by Prince Kum’a Ndumbe III, an internationally respected Pan-African scholar, prolific author, educator, and cultural visionary.

As the legitimate heir to King Lock Priso (Kum’a Mbape), one of the most influential traditional rulers of the Sawa coastal peoples of Cameroon, Prince Kum’a Ndumbe III has dedicated his life to promoting the renaissance, rehabilitation, and international recognition of African cultures and histories.

In the early 1980s, he established AfricAvenir as an independent African cultural center committed to intellectual freedom, cultural empowerment, and historical justice.

His lifelong commitment continues to inspire the organization’s work and serves as a guiding force behind its educational and cultural mission.

Working Toward a More Just Future

AfricAvenir International believes that meaningful social transformation begins with dialogue, education, and mutual respect.

Our programs encourage participants to question inherited narratives, explore multiple perspectives, and develop the critical thinking skills necessary to address today’s global challenges.

By connecting history with contemporary realities, we empower individuals and communities to become active contributors to a more inclusive and equitable world.

Join Our Mission

Whether you are a student, researcher, educator, artist, activist, policymaker, or simply someone passionate about justice and intercultural understanding, AfricAvenir International welcomes you to become part of our growing community.

Together, we can create spaces for dialogue, strengthen democratic values, celebrate cultural diversity, and contribute to a future where equality and human dignity are shared by all.

Through education, culture, and collaboration, we continue building bridges between Africa, Europe, and the wider world.
